About the club

A friendly club where children come first

Grassroots football in Cheltenham built on enjoyment, inclusion and helping every child grow in confidence.

Who we are

Football for children and young people, from Cubs to U18s

Southside Star Youth FC is a grassroots club based in Cheltenham. We provide football for children and young people across mixed and girls' teams, from our youngest Cubs right through to U18s.

We believe youth football should be about more than winning matches. Yes, we want our children to compete and do well, but just as important is that they develop confidence, respect and resilience, and build memories that last long after the final whistle. Our coaches are volunteers who give their time to help children enjoy the game, improve their skills and understand teamwork, respect and commitment.

Our ethos

A family club where everyone has a part to play

Grassroots football only works when everyone pitches in. Players, parents, coaches, volunteers and sponsors all have a part to play at Southside Star, and it's that shared effort that makes the club what it is. Above all, the safety, wellbeing and happiness of our players comes first, in a safe and respectful environment for every child, family and volunteer.

What we ask of our players

  • Work hard and give their best
  • Support their teammates
  • Respect match officials and opponents
  • Listen and keep learning
  • Enjoy their football
  • Represent the club with pride

How we coach

Our approach on the pitch

Development over results

We measure a good season by how much our children improve and enjoy it, not just by what the league table says.

Everyone gets to play

Game time is for all, not only the strongest. Confidence is built by being on the pitch, not watching from the side.

Volunteer coaches who care

Our teams are run by parents and volunteers who give their time freely and are supported with guidance and training.

Respect, always

Towards teammates, opponents, referees and spectators. It's the standard we hold every player and parent to.

More than a match

The moments that stick

A first goal. A diving save. Running back to the halfway line with the whole team chasing after you. These are the memories our children carry, and the reason so many volunteers give their weekends to the club.
